On Being a Hobbiest Photographer

I came across this blog post on the MCP Actions site. It rang true for me. As a stay at home mom, I’m interested in ways to make some extra money. I love photography so maybe I should study up & become a professional. I almost felt guilty for not really wanting to do that.

This blog post was really refreshing & encouraged me to keep working at getting better & enjoy myself as a hobbiest photographer!

Challenge #6 Outfit #25

It looks like Spring might actually be here! It’s almost 60F. And the sun is poking its head out from time to time.

I celebrated by wearing a dress with capri leggings and no socks! Sweet.

Challenge #6 Outfit #24

We spent a leisurely morning at the resort. We wandered around the gardens & had lots of fun taking pictures – I’ll probably do a post with some of the photos.

I wore shorts & tights again which is honestly one of my favourite looks. I love my shirt except for the fact that it’s just too big & isn’t doing me any favours. I hate it when that happens!

Outfit #24

I love my purple boots too. That is all.

Challenge #6 Outfit #23

So after being in Portland for OMSI, we drove back home to Bend, stayed the night, handed the kids off to my parents in the morning & drove back over another mountain for our anniversary get away.

We stayed at Oregon Garden Resort & got an amazing deal! I wore a dress that I’ve been waiting to wear for a while & decided that I don’t really like it. It’s comfortable & fairly cute, but it’s too long & because of the pattern on it, I don’t think I can shorten it. I just felt frumpy in it. The photos don’t do it much justice either.

Outfit #23

I Love Hotels!

Not pleased with the outfit, but very pleased with our time away. Great food & accommodation!

Challenge #6 Outfit #22

We headed up to Portland to go to OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Technology). Stayed overnight in a hotel & headed out in the morning. Had a great day with my boys. I highly recommend OMSI – lots of fun.

My husband was my photographer – sadly he’s not the greatest, but at least he helped out!

I’ve been seeing tiered skirts around & I really like them, but I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. I found this one at Old Navy & I actually really like it & how it looks on me.

Don’t let the sunshine fool you – we had more snow this morning, it was gone by the time I took my pictures though. We’ll probably skip Spring & go straight to Summer – the joys of Central Oregon!

I have to say that I love hats, I have a lot of hats. However, I don’t wear my hats very often – I just forget, or if I’m at home, they tend to get in the way. That being said, I’m going to try to wear them more often. Because I love them.

I realised after I put this outfit together that there are a couple of items that are repeated – the shrug & the jeggings. I think it’s ok though because they are helping me use another item of clothing that I don’t wear much which is the whole point of this!

Outfit #21

Dress: Ross – shortened by me
Shrug: Torrid
Jeggings: Pure Energy
Shoes: Target

While I was out taking my photos, my youngest son decided to lock the backdoor. That was fun. I pounded on the door for ages until my 3 year old finally came & let me in. Slightly scary, but pretty funny.

Challenge #6 Outfit #20

Headed out to do some errands today. It’s so not Springy here today – cold & overcast, but I thought I’d bring a bit of Spring to my outfit with flowers!

I looked everywhere for a long sleeved shrug for the winter. I wanted to be able to wear my strappy tops in the cold weather. It was surprisingly hard to find what I was looking for, but eventually I found this shrug at Torrid. So glad I found it.

Outfit #20

Butterfly Earrings!

Flower Power!

Shrug: Torrid
Dress: Old Navy
Leggings: Target
Shoes: Ross

I love these shoes. Great heel, comfortable. The only thing is that the bottom is a bit slick. I imagine I’ll be wearing them quite a lot this Spring & Summer.

Challenge # 3 Pork Loin with Fennel, Olives, and Sun Dried Tomatoes

I am not being super adventurous with my recipes at the moment since I can’t buy any new ingredients until April. I’m working with what I have & only buying fresh fruits & vegetables & even then nothing too exotic as I am trying to make my $20 stretch!

Anyway, this recipe was originally meant to be made with mackerel, but I didn’t have any & I thought it would be good with pork. You can find the recipe here.

I loved the combination of fennel, olives & sun dried tomatoes. So yummy & it went well with the pork. My boys ate some of it, but weren’t over-enthusiastic though they loved the pork.

Challenge #6 Outfit #19

A playdate at a local bouncy castle place was on the agenda for yesterday so I knew I had to be casual & comfortable.

A simple outfit that I thought worked well. I wore a shawl/cape thing instead of a coat. At the bouncy castle place I kept it on quite a bit because I was really cold. That’s when a little girl came up to me & said I looked like a witch. Nice! Ah well, hopefully I was a good-looking, stylish witch.

It’s an ode to Ross day!

I’d like to take a moment to talk about boots. A couple of years ago, I set out on a hunt for a pair of black boots that would be my “go to” boots. They needed to be stylish & comfortable. I spent more than I should on several different pairs of boots – mostly ordered online. Some of them I still have & enjoy wearing, but none of them were exactly what I wanted. Then I found this pair of boots in Ross for less than $25 & they were nearly perfect. I told myself that if I ever found them again, I’d buy another pair & more than a year later, in a different State at a different Ross, I found them again & bought them. I love them that much! They aren’t perfect, but they’re close.

I’ve become much more focused in what I buy lately. I used to buy pretty much anything if it was on sale, but now I am thinking about basics that I want to find & I am intentional in looking for them. I’ll still look for the best deal, but wearablity is so much more important than having lots of things in my closet that I can’t or don’t want to wear.

Challenge #6 Outfit #18

It’s laundry day! That means that I’m in my sweats all day so there won’t be an outfit post today, but I do have an outfit post from yesterday.

I LOVE the skirt I’m wearing. I found it in a huge pile of second-hand clothes in the hall that my community group was moving into in London. It started off as a dress – I can’t even remember what it looked like, but I sort of wish I’d kept it as a dress. However, I don’t think I’d have worn it as much as a dress. It’s polyester wonderfulness & the pattern is amazing! Colours I love & a beautiful design.

I was a bit disappointed with my outfit though. I wore a plain top & my reasoning at the time was that since the skirt is so wild & colorful, I need a plain top. However, I think it looks a bit sloppy & under-styled. I’ll do better next time I wear the skirt.

The Bangs are Taking Over!

I really must do something about my hair! I am so long overdue for a haircut. I’m planning on going very red again for the summer, but I am struggling to find a hairstyle that I really like – something that is funky, easy & versatile. Hopefully soon!
